Thank you for your help but...

One school wants me to take a basic english course in order to show that I know how to write a research paper (yes, seriously 180+ hours later I apparently don't know how to write a research paper). So I email another school this:

Hello Ms. Academic Coordinator (ok, not what I called her for real),

I searched around for your email address and figured this would be a better way of getting in touch with you since I will be out and about this morning. My question is in regards to the ENGL 1302 prerequisite.

According to TAMU's communication requirement for the catalog I followed (124), I was required to take ENGL 104 (Texas Common Course Number - ENGL 1301) and any one of the following:

ENGL 203, 210, 235, 236, 241, 301, SCOM 203, 205, 243 [SCOM is now called COMM at TAMU]

I took ETWR 2301 from Houston Community College and this course was substituted for ENGL 210 by my TAMU advisor, thereby allowing me to complete the core curriculum communication requirement for graduation.

Last week I met with an advisor at the UH-Sugar Land campus to go over my transcripts and she said I would have to take ENGL 1302. Two years ago when I attended an informational session at UT-Houston I had my transcripts audited. I vaguely remember my second english course being substituted in place of ENGL 1302. However, I don't remember and I want to double check if I do have to take this course. I know I have to take Nutrition and Intro to Sociology, I never took those for my degree plan.

If you could let me know if I need to take this English course in order to apply to the UT-Houston BSN program, I would greatly appreciate it since I am signing up to take the other two courses at Wharton County Junior College.

Attached are my transcripts saved in a PDF format in case you need to see them to answer my question. Thank you in advance!

Simple question. Long explanation, but just one simple question. Do I need to take this english class because I'm signing up to take some other ones and need to know if I need to take it.

This is the response I got:

Thanks for the email explaining things. Right now, we are no longer able to give unofficial transcript reviews for prospective applicants. So, you are going to have to apply to the program and submit your transcripts to the registrar’s office. They in turn will evaluate them and mail you a print out letting you know which prerequisites have been met and which you are lacking.

I hope this information is useful and if you need additional assistance, feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your interest in the UT Houston School of Nursing,

XXXXX

No, that was not useful at all Ms. Academic Coordinator.
