Week 4 begins....

Tomorrow week 4 of nursing school begins. So far, so good. I am loving everything, and most everyone. I've made a few friends that seem to have alot in common with me. The hardest part has been leaving the girls all day. That said, they aren't starving for attention. They have daddy almost every day and nana comes to visit 2x per week.

The wee-1 is walking every where. Seriously, everywhere. It seems like just a few weeks ago she wa taking some steps and falling down. Now, walking is her only means of transportation. She figured out how to get herself back up off the ground, so this helps the whole walking thing tons. She is now calling me dada and daddy is known as mama. That or she is going around yelling nana, but we don't know if that is in relation to my mother, or her trying to say Gianna. I actually think it might be the latter of the two.

She is beginning to say more things, or at least try to. I hear "baw" for ball, didi for her aunt (Titi), ee-oh for her uncle (Tio), "dah" for dog, "cah" or "di-dee" for cat / kitty. My personal favorite... "owwwww!" used in the right context for when she gets hurt. I can't help but laugh at that one! She loves to play with her maracas, and music making toys up to her ears, which I only imagine she is pretending is a phone. She is growing really close to daddy and has on more than one occassion passed me up for him. She is becoming a real daddy's girl.

The 3-footer is feeling the brunt of me going back to school more than baby sister is. She is more aware, and unfortunantly we seem to be ignorning or forgetting things. It's most definitely not intentional, it just happens. Likes last weeks fundraising dinner I took her too. I thought it started at 7pm. Unfortunantly, it ended at 7pm, so needless to say, I had a very unhappy 4 year old.

She is all into her ballet that restarted back up, playing with Barbies, and playing make believe. She got a new scooter for Christmas that she has only had a few times to play with unfortunantly due to the cold and / or wet weather. She is a great big sister, and looks out for her. She is an awesome helper, even though I can tell she gets tired of hearing, "Sophia, can you do me a favor?". She is super observant. She always has been, but lately other people are pointing it out to me. Her teacher for one let me know that she doesn't miss a thing. This is a child that you cannot just say, "Oh, we'll do it next week." because come next week she will be asking about it again. She is really getting into reading and using her Tag reader, so I'm glad I, er... Santa didn't waste her money.

The girls together are growing in so many ways. I love seeing them play together now that the wee-1 isn't so wee anymore. I love hearing them cracking up in the mornings on the weekends. I love watching them, and seeing them happy.

Anyways, I wish I had more fun stuff to report. The wee-1 will soon become a wee-1-year-old in a few weeks! School is busy, and I miss my hubs while he is gone weeknights in school. That's what's going on in our neck of the woods!

The resolutions

It's a new year, so you know what comes with that.... that's right! Resolutions!! Now, I'm not a fan of waiting a whole year to start things. If I want something done, I usually want it done now. Nevertheless, I like to challenge myself, so here we go.

1. Lose 50 pounds. Wait, scratch that. Lose 50 MORE pounds. That's right folks! I am down to 195, down 50 pounds from my highest NON-PREGNANT weight of 245. I specify that, because when people ask me how much I've lost, they feel the need to say, "Well... you just had a baby, so..." No. No, no, no, no, no. Why ask if you are just going to make me feel like I didn't really do anything worth bragging? I am proud. Don't be jealous. Hah.

2. Wear sunscreen everyday. I'm proud to say that I have been doing this since December. Go me!

3. Be vegetarian. If it took chlorophyl and sunlight to grow, then throw it on my plate! This is another one I have been doing for a while. Granted, this one I don't follow as religiously. I do still like to eat chicken, but besides that, no thanks.

4. Exercise at least 3x per week. This is another one I've been doing, since probably August, so I just want to maintain doing this now that school is starting back up. Speaking of...

5. Maintain passing grades I am proud of. Note: I did not say "Get all A's" or "Have a 4.0". I'm being more realistic about nursing school this go around. That said, it doesn't mean I'm not striving to be a part of Sigma Theta Tau. Along the lines of maintaining my grades...

6. Read/review every night for school. I'm not good about cracking those things called books open. I'm going to work on that one along with my study habits (I'm clumping these into one resolution since they go hand in hand).

7. Keep up with the cleaning and laundry. This one requires the work of my husband, since I'll be gone alot for school and clinicals. So I guess I should make the resolution say, nag my husband just enough to to clean and do laundry but not enough to annoy him.

And now, looking over last year's resoloutions (check them out here), here is the status of those.

1. Completed well before baby was born.

2. I met my goal to be under 200 pounds. Now to keep it up!

3. Well... hmm... you know how the hubs lost his job? It kind of put a damper on date nights when we couldn't afford to do too much or feel emotionally up to it. Something to work towards this year.

4. I read probably 6 books? That's decent for me, again considering the past year's stressors.

5. I did well with this, then had the second baby, then had the hubs lose his job, then had to move, so it kind of flew out the window. Something else to work towards.

6. Working out, yes. Giving myself a little more time, yes. Shaving my legs, no. I'll work on that one. I'm sure the hubs would appreciate it on nights I'm trying to use him as a station heater in bed.

7. Save more, no. Spend less, yes and no. We have to pay for school somehow right?

8. Yes, yes and yes. Something I will always do.

9. Yes on going to mass. No on the volunteering. Life got a little too chaotic and I won't try and make that commitment this year knowing how the school year is going to be.

10. Yes and know. Just because I worked on it, doesn't mean I succeeded. Another work in progress ;)

The end of a decade

I've been contemplating something clever to write here for the last day of 2009. Maybe something intellectual or something that makes you say "hmmm... interesting Maria". Nothing is really coming to mind, so I'll just begin with the month of December.

As always, December was another busy month. So here is my mind just going off with everything I can think of that has happened. I finished my two online courses with A's, and bumped my overall GPA to a 3.0. I got a laptop over Thanksgiving, I don't remember if I mentioned that or not. I got a new car! A 2009 Chevy Malibu, and I love it. We celebrated my parents wedding anniversary in the church as they renewed their vows. The first weekend of December was spent at a Christmas party for the hubs work. It was fun, but akward (always is when you know absolutely no one!). I went to my orientation for the nursing program I start in January 11th (coincidentally, our 5th! wedding anniversary!!!). Went to a good-bye party for one of my best friends the second weekend in December. Cried alot as we said goodbye. Met up with another one of my best friends for dinner at her house with her family. I sewed tons of stuff for gifts this year! I went back to College Station to help friend pack and say good bye again (that was hard!). Celebrated Christmas Eve at mass and at my future sister-in-laws parents' home. Enjoyed a Christmas Day breakfast/brunch with family. Watch my girls open tons of gifts! And spent this week organizing our room (almost done!).

Whew! That's alot of stuff. No wonder I'm always so tired.

The 3-footer has had a busy month as well. She had her first ballet recital and did wonderful!! I'm so very proud of her. She was so scared at first to go in the room when she saw the crowd. It reminded me of myself when I was young (and still how I can be sometimes). She got over her fear though, and did wonderful. She spent part of the month sick and missed her entire last week of school. She enjoyed Christmas so much this year! It was so fun helping her write her letter to Santa, and seeing her get excited by reading his note the next morning! She tore into gifts delicately at first, then like a mad woman later! She is so sweet, playing with her sister all the time! I love hearing them laugh together! She is great at drawing these days and really working hard at learning how to read (now especially more that she has a Tag reader!). I saw the most worried look on her face when she saw her aunt come home from the hospital today post-surgery to repair a torn ACL. She was genuinely scared and worried about her, but calmed down a bit after I explained this to her.

The wee-1 is taking steps!!! What a big girl! She is signing things, specifically more, food/eat, and milk. So the basics! She is saying what sounds like dog to any animal and saying Di Do (which I think is Tio, her uncle) and Di di (Titi, her aunt). I also catch her saying "all done" and many MANY occassions. The poor girl has endured a pretty sick month just like big sister. She has a double ear infection, is on nebulizer treatments for her cough/wheeze like big sister, and yuck coming from her nose. If it keeps up, she will have to have tubes, because she is now on her 3rd antibiotic in very little time for ear infections. She enjoyed her first Christmas, and was DEFINITELY spoiled by all sorts of friends and family! She didn't quite understand the opening of the gifts, but she was excited by what was inside (who am I kidding, by what was outside too... can't fail with good ole tissue paper!). Tonight is her first new year's eve, and her and big sister are asleep soundly in their beds.

So the end of an era is quickly approaching. It is t-minus one hour until 2010. This decade, let alone this year has been quite a crazy one. The decade had many historic things happen, including Y-2K, September 11th, Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami of southeast Asia, wars, Hurricane Ike, more wars.... I myself have had so much growth. The beginning of the decade was marked by my graduation from high school, then going off to college for the first time. I found my first love, lost my first love, then found my TRUE love. I married my true love and I grew and birthed two of the most beautiful baby girls ever. I went back to school, left school and will begin the next decade by going back one again to school. We moved 3 times in College Station, then moved again this past year after the loss of the hubs job. The hubs went through 4 jobs while we were in College Station during our marriage, and he is on his 5th one. We moved in with my sister, and had many humbling experiences.

T-minus 52 minutes until 2010. I pray and hope for many things. I pray for the continued health of my girls, husband, myself and other family and friends. I hope to have an amazing year in school for myself and my hubs. I hope to be more organized and healthier. I pray my girls will continue to grow into the wonderful people they are becoming. 2010 has lots to look forward to, school, wedding (my sister-in-law in the summer), a vacation to who knows where (nothing is planned, but I am determined to take the girls somewhere!), and a much better life. 2009 kind of went to the crapper. Things were tough, but this year will be different. I'm thankful we got through 2009, but hopeful 2010 will be nothing like this past year. Hears to a new year and new decade!

Goodbye 2009, it was fun knowing you.

Giving thanks

What a busy month November has been. So many things to be thankful for this year. More than anything, we are thankful for the roof over our heads, food in our stomachs, all of us having good health and another year of having wonderful friends, family and memories being made each day.

The wee-1 is standing for a bit on her own. She is letting go of furniture and just hovering, then eventually falling on her bottom. She has mastered the pincer grasp and is saying mama and dada. She is eating all sorts of table food, and enjoyed turkey, sweet potatoes, rolls, and peas at Thanksgiving which we shared with Aunt Joanna, Uncle Barry, and the girls, Maddie and Kennedy. She is loving all the pets here at Titi's house, and is such a giggle box. She is super ticklish. She is not the world's greatest sleeper, but she isn't unhappy when she is awake. We hear her chatting at night, playing with her paci, and when the 3-footer is awake, laughing at her sister.

The 3-footer is a riot. On the way home from Aunt Joanna's house, she was in the backseat saying the funniest things. Some of my favorites?

1. "Mama! I forgot to play the W. I. I. with my cousins!" She has spelled out Wii instead of saying it correctly.

2. After seeing the LaQuinta billboard... "Look mama.. Activiaaaaa!" I think she got the idea that it was a billboard for activia yogurt because of the colors and font. It was hilarious how she sung it :P

3. As I'm singing Christmas songs, she interjects with her own song... "No more singing time, no more singing time!" Do I really sing that bad?? Geez, thanks :P

She is funny, always cracking me up. Hearing the wee-1 start to say things is reminding me of the 3-footer when she was little talking. I have a memory of how she would say "dog" more like DAW-GUH. She has really grown up a lot.

November had a lot of other busy things occuring. I got accepted into nursing school, so I will finish my BSN in nursing, yeah! I dropped a few more pounds and am officially 10 pounds away from the weight I was at when Anthony and I started dating. I was a finalist for free lasik, but I don't know if I won yet. I saw New Moon with some girlfriends. We went to Austin for Turkey day. I experience my first (and possibly last) Black Friday (which I scored a laptop I needed for school!). And now we end the month with my parents celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary and having their vows renewed in the church and my brother proposing to his long time girlfriend, embarking on their own future full of wedding anniversaries. It has been a busy month! December is upon us, and things will be just as crazy. The wee-1 will celebrate her first Christmas, and I am going to attempt to start some sort of new Christmas tradition. I like a lot of things an aquaintance from College Station posts on her blog so I may do some of the crafy things she does. Check them out here : http://xtremeteamduty.blogspot.com/

Lots of firsts!

The wee-1 is accomplishing loads of things lately! For one, she just got over her first real sickness. High fever (103!), and just not feeling great. I think it was hand, foot, and mouth disease, not the flu. Over the weekend we saw her stand by herself. It was a split second, but she did it nevertheless! She is also eating finger foods now. Cheerios, cooked apples, cooked carrots, peas...

The 3-footer was sick too. Her fever got up to 104.2. Thankfully nurse mama was able to bring it down. She acts like a 4 year old these days. The word fart makes her laugh hysterically. Folding underwear in the laundry was a riot. She is starting to learn more sight words when reading. She is really missing her friends from our old home, but seems to be adjusting to life pretty well here.

Anyways, just a quickie, because I have homework to finish!

Feelin' blah

The title says it all. I'm feeling blah. After running on bit of a high, I'm at a blah at the moment. For the last few months I have been struggling to lose weight. It's finally working, and in the last month specifically it has really been going well. The last 3 days though have been blah. Family visiting, parties, lots and lots of cake.... I'm weary to stand on the scale tomorrow. Was the Coca-cola Cake worth it? In the heat of the moment, yes. Tomorrow on the scale, no. So tomorrow family leaves, and I am hoping to hit up the gym again either EARLY tomorrow morning or on Tuesday at my normal time. Wouldn't I just be the shiz-nit if I actually woke up and went to the gym at 6am? As a matter of fact, I would. Will it happen realistically though? Probably not. So tomorrow I aim to eat healthy again. No more cake... at least not until this coming weekend when we have Halloween stuff going on.

The 3-footer is 4, going on 14. I dread the days she is actually a teenager, because lately has stunk. Being outright defiant, and saying things like, "Fine! If I can't have this toy then I'm just going to throw it away in the trash can." Seriously? Or how about, "Daddy said I couldn't have a story because I wasn't behaving, so after he left my room I said to myself that I just wasn't going to go to sleep at all tonight!" Really?? I'm blaming it on lack of sleep. The last few days with family in town have lead to many long days and even longer nights.

I shouldn't say that everything she does is horrible. While she was laying in bed crying I went in there and she was gently brushing the hair out of my face. It was really touching. It makes me think that maybe not everything I do to her is horrible.

The wee-1 is making all sorts of sounds. Nothing that sounds like "mama". Only ba ba ba, squeals, lots of raspberry/tooty sounds. She hilariously makes ba ba ba sounds by taking her forearm in and out of her mouth real quickly. She is walking all along the furniture and crawling waaaaay to quickly. If I turn around for just a minute she is across the room.

Anyways.. blah blah blah. I'm feeling blah. And I want more cake.
