So I found myself the last few days talking with various people about homemade baby food. I wanted to share what I do, because it's actually really simple for me. I'm not going to lie, I "cheat" lots of ways. I buy unsweetened apple sauce by the big jars, plain unsweetened whole milk yogurt by the quart, jarred baby food for "emergency stash" in my diaper bag, jarred prunes because I'm lazy, and have been known to buy frozen fruits and veggies if they don't look good in the produce section. In the time it took me to boil a pot of water for some spaghetti for dinner, i cooked down some cherries (frozen, so already pitted to save me the time), blended them, and put them in an ice cube tray to freeze into individual servings. I cooked half a bag, and use a stick/hand blender. I filled approximately one ice cube tray full of food. Each cube is about 1 oz. of food. Usually the wee-1 eats 3-4 cubes of food per meal. I stick them in a freezer bag, and use them whenever I need them. I'm able to mix all sorts of things. I microwave a cube of blueberries and add it to the yogurt, since it's unsweetened. I don't make huge batches at once, but enough to have a good variety during the week. I took plain rolled oats, ran them through the blender until it was a fine flour, and will cook that for the wee-1's breakfast. Usually 1/2 tbsp. of the oatmeal flour with 2 tbsp. of water. Microwave for 15 seconds, stir, then 10 sec, stir, then 5 or 10 more seconds. Done! Easy peasy. Some of the things I've made or frozen?
-smashed banana
-smashed avocado
-split peas
-peas and carrots
-spinach
-blueberries
-butternut squash
-sweet potato
-green beans
-broccoli and cauliflower
-cherries with banana
-mixed veggie (you know, the mixed frozen veggies, peas, carrots, corn, lima beans)
-peaches
Plus we have the oatmeal, brown rice (also ran through the blender until it was a finer powder), yogurt, applesauce, Gerber puffs, baby yum yums, Gerber wagon wheels... Anyways, there ya go :)
